Welcome to the 7mÊÓƵ Ophthalmology Residency! There are so many facets that make our residency one of the best in the country, and we can’t wait to share them with you all!  

Baylor is uniquely positioned at the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. As such, we train at numerous renowned health care systems, including Baylor’s Alkek Eye Center / Cullen Eye Institute, Ben Taub County Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston Methodist Hospital, and St. Lukes Hospital. We have a comprehensive combination of private, county, and VA clinic settings with a good mix of clinics that are resident-run and attending-run. All these factors provide us with unparalleled opportunities in the country’s most diverse (and fourth largest!) city and top-notch clinical training.  

Baylor understands that a key emphasis of residency training is the development of surgical skills and has worked diligently to create a program that provides an incredible surgical experience. First-year residents start supervised in our wet lab and progress towards their own primary strabismus, cataract, and oculoplastic surgeries. Second-year residents build on this strong foundation with increased experience in cataract, cornea, retina, and glaucoma surgery.  The training program culminates in a surgically focused final year. Our world-renowned faculty are also some of the most down-to-earth, accessible mentors who are utterly dedicated to our education. Residents leave Baylor as exceptional surgeons and highly proficient clinicians, prepared for comprehensive ophthalmology or ready to excel in any fellowship.  

We are truly the definition of a work hard and play hard residency! Camaraderie and friendships run deep across our residency (see the fun on our ). We have all made some lifelong friends and great memories at Baylor. The support system you develop here will stay with you through training and beyond.
