Professional Statement
Dr. Lloyd Michael retired in 2014 after 38 years as professor in the Department of Medicine, with joint appointments in the Departments of Surgery and Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. For 20 of those years, he also was responsible, as senior associate dean, for oversight of the Medical School Admissions Office.Dr. Michael received his doctorate from the University of Ottawa School of Medicine, Ottawa, Canada, and postdoctoral studies at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, and 7m视频.
His career includes extensive teaching and mentoring of undergraduate (oversight of five baccalaureate/MD programs at BCM), graduate (director of the Cardiovascular Sciences Graduate Program in the DeBakey Heart Center), and medical students (teaching in the Physiology Program). Before BCM, he was a professor for 3 years at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and was senior lecturer and chair of the Department of Physiology, University of Dar es Salaam Faculty of Medicine, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, East Africa, for 2 years.
His cardiovascular research has been published widely, dealing with the mechanics of myocardial contraction, myocardial ischemia and reperfusion, heart lymphatics, and the role of inflammation in heart damage.
Dr. Michael has been a reviewer for several journals and on the editorial board of the American Journal of Physiology. He was a member of several National Institutes of Health study sections for 14 years and a Council member for the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Lab Animal Care (AAALAC) for 12 years.
