Dr. H. Edward Garrett, Sr. joined the Department of Surgery faculty after completing his training in general and thoracic surgery at 7mÊÓƵ under the direction of Dr. Michael E. DeBakey. In 1964, Dr. Garrett performed the first successful coronary artery bypass and the following year, published the first series of bypass operations for arteries in the lower leg.
